As New York Fashion Week approaches, we are finding ourselves scattering through our closets to find some winter outfit inspiration. We are prepared for a polar vortex and lots of grey dismal clouds casting over Manhattan during February fashion week. It’s really hard to look cute when you can’t feel your toes and you’re pretty sure that you have frostbite in various parts of your body. So, our cheap trick is simple: faux fur. Faux fur has always been a safe bet to spice up our wardrobe when all we really want to wear are blanket scarves and lots of layers. We cannot write about it enough because it makes any outfit you wear look like you put in an abundance of effort. So, February, we will not succumb to your bitter winds. And even if we do, we will look good while doing so.
I wanted to center my look around my new navy faux fur jacket from Zara which is on sale now ($80 originally $150), so I decided to do a navy monochromatic look. This jacket is so warm and I’m definitely going to wear it for NYFW, so you’ll be seeing it a lot more on our blog this February. Underneath, I kept it simple with a black bodysuit from Urban Outfitters. I also added more textures to the look by wearing my Bertie-V velvet sneakers from Steve Madden ($80) and my leather pants from Zara. I picked out a pair of new oversized black sunglasses from ZeroUV ($7!!!!) that have a nice ombre gradient. Lastly, I finished off my look with a new silver beaded choker that I bought from Jewel Erry (instagram: @shopjewelerry). They have a bunch of chokers with a cool bohemian vibe.

It’s really tough for me to dress for winter because I’m such a dress kinda gal. I recently found that pleated skirts are pretty easy to convert into your winter wardrobe, if you just layer it the right way. I bought this metallic gold tea length pleated skirt from Vanilla Sky on sale for $20. I paired it with my favorite boots from Charles & Keith which are currently on sale for $38 (I cannot recommend these booties enough, I really do love them). I love this skirt for the reason that it shows off whichever pair of shoes I decide to wear with it and that it also has such great movement (so photogenic). On top, i wore a sheer olive button up blouse from Vanilla Sky with an off-white lace bralette from Urban Outfitters. Since it is winter and I’m not a complete crazy person, I added a faux fur vest from H&M (but I do have to admit that if I wear this look for fashion week, I definitely need a thicker faux fur jacket on top). I also recently just got a pair of sunglasses from ZeroUV and I am OBSESSED. For $10 (yes, $10) I got the oversize thin cross brow mirrored flat lens which have a pink mirrored lens and a silver thin frame. I love this look and I want to find more skirts that I can incorporate in my winter wardrobe… wish me luck.
